Social Media Marketing. Top 3 Stories In 2015 So Far…

Towards the end of 2014, marketers everywhere were making their big predictions about what would happen in social media marketing. Now that the dust has settled, dry January is a distant memory and most of our new years resolution, we thought we’d take stock of the biggest things that have actually happened in the first two months of 2015.

Snapchat introduces ‘Discover’ Feature
On 27 January 2015, Snapchat introduced its new ‘Discover’ feature after a deal was struck with major media brands including CNN, National Geographic, Warner Music Group, The Daily Mail and Comedy Central.

It seems the app, which allows users to send picture and video messages that self-destruct shortly after being viewed, is no longer just being used to send nudie pics. The Discover tool acts as a way for its mainly young audience to get their news, essentially evolving Snapchat to more than just a social media app.

With its highly engaged young audience and 100 million users around the world, Snapchat is becoming an increasingly appealing platform for advertisers.

Twitter Launches ‘Quick Promote’ Tool
On 4th February 2015, Twitter launched a new tool called ‘Quick Promote’, which is designed to make it much quicker and easier for SMEs to amplify their shared content.

The tool lets users promote their best performing tweets directly from the Tweet Activity Dashboard. This means that with just a few clicks, content can be targeted towards more people who are naturally interested in a certain topic.

Facebook Announces Product Ads
On 17 February 2015, Facebook announced its latest advertising feature – Product Ads. The new feature allows businesses that sell more than one product to advertise multiple items, or even their entire catalogue across multiple devices, while ensuring that the right individual products are advertised to the right people.

This means that marketers are able to upload their entire catalogue to Facebook and set campaigns that advertised specific products to targeted audiences. This is massive news for any retail businesses that use Facebook as part of their Social Media strategy as it offers a whole new way to advertise.
